1. Throw away all the self-help books. Just observe what you always do in order to be happy. Stop doing it. Just be happy
2. Don’t look for choices when you know the answer. If you don’t know the correct answer, having choices won’t help you anyway.
3. Don’t bother with the treadmill. The earth is falling through space 2.5 million km everyday at 30km/sec. That’s enough exercise for all of us.
4. Seek love, not porn. Its natural and you don’t have to master 182 categories
5. Don’t waste energy hating people. If the Sun finds them good enough to shine on every day, that ‘s good enough for you.
6. Slow down. The scenery doesn’t become any better just because you are rushing.
7. Don’t strain your memory. See everything and everyone as new every day. That way, you’ll never be surprised with anything that happens
8. Reduce wear and tear on your brain cells. See things as they are, not as you wish they are or think they are.
9. There’s no need to chase money. 1 trillion dollars circulate the world every day. Just stand in its flow and you’ll get wet. Don’t try to drink the whole river; don’t stay outside the river and curse it.
10. Don’t waste time planning a perfect holiday. What you will achieve at best is a perfectly executed plan, not a perfect holiday.
PS : If this list gets lost, don’t fret. Wait for 2011
Reading this only today 1 year after its been written, so just wanted to put across the thoughts in my head as I read it:
Just observe what you always do in order to be happy. Stop doing it. Just be happy
Very well said. I always hear people talking about planning for higher education, spouses living away from spouses or parents living away from their children for their careers, all for the so-called happiness they ‘may’ achieve in the future. And as soon as I hear about it, my first thought is “What about now?”. If you are sacrificing your present happiness for a future you don’t even know will exist, then whats the point?
Don’t bother with the treadmill.
Being a plump human being, this is music to my ears :).
If the Sun finds them good enough to shine on every day, that‘s good enough for you.
Loved this. But don’t really know whether its ‘wasting energy’. It takes all sorts to make this world – so some people may make you angry, irritate you, please you – all these are all emotions. I feel you should be happy that you are able to ‘feel’ which is what the true meaning of life is :).
See everything and everyone as new every day. That way, you’ll never be surprised with anything that happens
This reminds me of the movie “50 first dates” where the heroine has a short term memory and her memory gets reset every day. I have always enjoyed the movie but the thing that hit me most about it is that she carries no baggage from the past every day – even if she’s angry with her spouse, its forgotten. The day-to-day hassles which linger in our memory are gone. Some might say that even the happy moments are gone, but the negativity of the negative things we carry affects us more than the positivity of the positive :).
Loved the post, though I don’t really make resolutions for myself every year. My policy is to live in the moment and jo hoga dekhajaayega :). Yeah I’m not perfect, so there are negative thoughts coming along now and then, but even that is part of life :).
You know, deeps, perhaps i shouldn’t have dated it? Made a note to change the title of this post in the book. I guess its a interesting set of resolutions to consider at the beginning of any new year :)
thanks for sharing your thoughts.
