People in the red corner say:
“There is clearly a red apple outside. Anyone can see it”
In that case, it must appear as a red apple to all observers, under all conditions.
All of them would be seeing the red apple, just as you see it…you reckon?
If your eyes were separated – one in your face and one in your toes, will it still be a red apple?
If you keep the apple close to your eyes, will it still be a red apple?
If you see the apple in a dark room, will it still be a red apple?
If you wore green contact lenses, will it still be a red apple?
How can a red apple be so, when it appears differently to different observers under different conditions?
If it appears differently to different observers, what is its real form and essence?

People in the blue corner say:
“The red apple is only my imagination. There is no real apple in the world outside”
If it is only in your mind, then the moment you fall sleep, it should disappear from the world. But that doesn’t happen, does it?
Most likely, when you wake up in the morning, it’s still there on the table, where you left it last night; or the cat ate it while you were sleeping.
Even if you are wide awake and holding the apple in your hand, you still can’t claim that the apple exists only in your mind. Why?
You know my response by now.
In which of your ‘minds’ will we find the apple? We saw that there is no single mind in you that is sensing all phenomena. What we call ‘my mind’ is changing every moment.
It is not some weird theory. We can personally experience this with relaxed attention.
The consciousness of sight is different
from the consciousness of taste, is different
from the consciousness of smell, is different
from the consciousness of thought and is different
from the consciousness of touch.
The apple in ‘your mind’ has no place to stay.
So, which corner did you stand in? Whose side are you on?
Meanwhile, this is reality. The apple is right here. And so are you.
We have to deal with it.
Hmmm…We must be making a basic error somewhere!! What could that be?
Hint: Maybe if we look at this picture long enough, we’ll know.
the picture seems to say the apple and mind lead to one other. and also that if you erased the arrows, you would somehow have to erase the two objects themselves.
Very nice. Very nice. Try and experience it. Keep going.
Best wishes.
